Artificial Intelligence, particularly generative AI, is one of the most exciting and fast-evolving trends in technology today. However, it’s not uncommon for businesses to face hesitation or even fear when introducing AI to their teams. Fear of the unknown can lead to uncertainty and apprehension, which makes it harder for leaders to encourage AI adoption within their organisations.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many of the leaders we speak to are grappling with the same challenge. To help, here are a couple of practical tips for easing AI-related fears and getting your teams on board.

1. Show That AI Is Already Part of Everyday Life

AI may seem like a daunting, futuristic concept, but the truth is, it’s been quietly embedded in our lives for years. For example, predictive text on mobile phones is a form of AI most people have used daily without even realising it. By framing AI as an evolution of tools they’re already familiar with, like predictive text or email spam filters, it becomes less intimidating.

Helping your teams see AI as an extension of what they already know can be a game-changer. When they realise they’ve been using it without fear for years, generative AI begins to feel more accessible and less like an unknown entity.

2. Reframe the Conversation Around AI

Language matters. Phrasing AI as a “revolutionary technology” that could replace jobs can understandably spark fear. Instead, introduce it as a tool designed to make tasks easier or quicker. For example, rather than saying, “This AI tool will transform how you work,” you could say, “Here’s a drafting tool that can help speed up this part of your job.”

By focusing on small, practical benefits—such as AI helping with drafting, organising data, or brainstorming ideas—you remove the weight of sweeping change. Instead of feeling threatened, your team will see AI as an ally in their work, offering incremental improvements to productivity.

3. Focus on Small, Manageable Steps

One of the biggest challenges with AI adoption is the perception that it will lead to immediate, drastic changes. In reality, the most effective use of AI often comes from small, incremental improvements. For example, automating repetitive tasks, getting a head start on projects, or improving data accuracy are all simple ways to integrate AI.

By breaking the concept of AI down into smaller, manageable steps, it feels far less overwhelming. It’s no longer about “revolutionising the business” but about making everyday tasks a little easier.
